Salesforce & OpenAI bring advanced agents to ChatGPT
Salesforce and OpenAI have announced an expanded partnership to integrate artificial intelligence capabilities into enterprise work environments and commerce applications.
The collaboration introduces new integrations between Salesforce's Agentforce 360 platform and OpenAI's frontier models, such as GPT-5, enabling employees and customers to access Salesforce tools directly from within ChatGPT. This arrangement also provides businesses with the ability to sell products to a large network of potential customers within the ChatGPT interface, while maintaining ownership over their business data and customer relationships.
At the same time, companies using Salesforce can incorporate the latest OpenAI frontier models, including the recently released GPT-5 model, directly within the Agentforce 360 platform. These models enhance AI agent development and prompt building, giving businesses improved options for analysis and automation.
The partnership marks the launch of Agentforce Commerce, which integrates with the Agentic Commerce Protocol. This enables merchants to interact with consumers through ChatGPT and process orders, payments, and fulfilment while retaining full control over business operations and customer data.
A new Instant Checkout function is embedded in ChatGPT via Agentic Commerce Protocol and Stripe. The feature allows businesses to present product catalogues within ChatGPT, and users can complete transactions within the application. For example, a retailer can showcase products, such as a new hiking boot line, directly in ChatGPT and process orders instantly, while retaining full control over order management and customer relationships.
The collaboration has resulted in further integration with the Slack collaboration tool. The ChatGPT app for Slack enables users to access insights, draft content, and summarise conversations directly within Slack. Enhanced search capabilities in Slack now also incorporate internal enterprise knowledge through ChatGPT-connected tools.
AI in enterprise workflow
Integrating OpenAI's reasoning, voice, and multimodal capabilities into the Agentforce 360 Platform enables features like improved context awareness and faster analysis for enterprise applications. OpenAI has been selected as a preferred model for Salesforce's Atlas Reasoning Engine and Prompt Builder, enhancing the AI-driven experiences for sales and analysis apps.
The changes start with Agentforce Sales, where authorised staff can leverage CRM data and Tableau visualisations through natural language queries powered by OpenAI frontier models. Integrating ChatGPT with Slack provides users with tools to summarise discussions, generate responses, and access insights without switching apps. Programming tasks can now also be delegated in Slack using the Codex AI agent via simple tagging.
For consumer-facing commerce, businesses can turn user conversations within ChatGPT into sales. The Instant Checkout capability enables privacy-compliant transactions without leaving ChatGPT, providing a seamless purchase experience while allowing businesses to retain full control over order completion and ongoing customer interactions.
This announcement follows recent news at Dreamforce 2025, where Salesforce launched Anthropic's Claude LLM, which will now serve as a foundation for the Agentforce 360 Platform, enabling organisations to enhance data security.
