Genetec adds case investigation tools to Security Centre SaaS
Genetec has added new investigation tools to Security Centre SaaS, its cloud-delivered physical security platform. The update aims to cut the time needed to find, review and package video evidence when incidents span multiple locations and mixed camera estates
The update targets organisations running large security installations across facilities, campuses and dispersed sites, where cameras and devices often come from multiple suppliers. Security teams may also start with incomplete incident details, such as an approximate time, a location, or a partial description of a person or vehicle.
A central element of the release is enhanced natural language search. Investigators can use everyday descriptions to search across video feeds from multiple sites and camera brands, then refine results using contextual cues such as location, nearby activity, and what happened before and after a detected event.
The update also adds timeline-based review features. A timeline preview lets investigators scan video and confirm key moments without loading or reviewing full recordings. This is designed to narrow time ranges earlier and reduce the need to manually scrub through long periods of footage.
For investigations that require tracking movement between scenes, the workflow includes tools for following people, vehicles and objects across different camera views. Investigators can visualise movement using trajectory analysis to better understand how events unfolded over time.
Case Building
The company says the Security Centre SaaS now integrates evidence into the case structure as work progresses, allowing investigators to consolidate clips, screenshots, and related materials into a single record. The system can organise items chronologically and add contextual information and tags.
At a media event at Genetec Headquarters in Montreal on Wednesday, Laurent Villeneuve, Senior Manager, Product & Industry Marketing, demonstrated the AI tool's ability to retrieve clips of a "suspect" wearing a black jacket and grey beanie. The system clipped images and video matching the prompt, allowing the user to build a case and investigate subsequent screen grabs in each frame.
The integrations enable what Christian Morin, Vice President of Product Engineering at Genetec, called "fact-based" integrations, meaning the human-in-the-loop will decide on an assumption, not the AI. He added that there are built-in safeguards preventing operators from asking AI integrations for suggestive queries, such as searching for a thief.
The update also adds AI-assisted documentation functions, including automated summaries of video clips. Genetec positions this as a way to speed up note-taking and incident reporting once relevant footage has been identified and validated.
"People that are lazy should not buy our system," added the company's CEO, Pierre Racz.
Single Workflow
Investigators can move from live monitoring into an active investigation within the same interface, then collect and review evidence and share findings with internal and external stakeholders. Genetec says the approach avoids switching between systems or running separate searches as new leads emerge.
Multi-site operations can face constraints that slow investigations, such as disconnected tools and closed systems that perform best in single-vendor environments. Genetec argues these constraints become more apparent as investigations expand across locations and teams try to correlate information across multiple camera brands and systems.
"Unlike tools built for closed, single‐vendor systems, the new investigation capabilities in Security Centre SaaS are built for enterprise environments, enabling teams to work across thousands of cameras, multiple sites, and mixed ecosystems without switching systems or launching separate searches as new leads emerge," said Anne‐Cécile Millot‐Tournier, Product Group Director, Intelligent Automation, Genetec.
The new investigation features will be introduced to Security Centre SaaS users from February 2026, with additional functionality rolling out on an ongoing basis.
