AXL, Dillon launch AI solutions for consulting sector
AXL and Dillon Consulting have entered a partnership to co-develop artificial intelligence solutions aimed at improving consulting workflows across engineering and management services.
AXL, a Canadian venture studio focused on applied AI research, and Dillon Consulting, a professional consulting firm with expertise in planning, engineering and environmental science.
The initiative aims to leverage their combined strengths to create AI-driven tools that blend Dillon's domain expertise and on-the-ground feedback with AXL's technical capabilities, targeting bespoke AI solutions that can accelerate processes, enhance consistency, and support business growth for consulting practitioners.
Addressing sector challenges
According to both parties, the architecture, engineering and construction sector faces significant hurdles in the implementation of large-scale data and AI projects. Industry studies indicate that 85 per cent of such projects encounter obstacles, including ambiguous goals, siloed data, and challenges integrating with existing operations. While initial pilots can demonstrate promise, scaling these initiatives often proves difficult due to inconsistent information and regulatory demands.
"Canada doesn't have an innovation gap. It has a go-to-market gap. With Dillon delivering real feedback on client-side needs, we short-circuit inertia and build tools that matter, fast," said Daniel Wigdor, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of AXL
Through the new arrangement, Dillon will participate in the AXL AI Catalyst program. This initiative seeks to validate and extend AI applications that are directly anchored in actual industry requirements. AXL, through its Labs and AI Catalyst scheme, will provide technical and research expertise, while Dillon is expected to inform these efforts with field insights from ongoing consulting engagements.
According to the firms, Dillon's broader goal is to foster a culture that encourages its workforce to innovate and deploy new technologies. This is intended to streamline internal operations, improve how projects are delivered, and ultimately enhance value delivered to clients through advances in automation and data-driven insights.
Focus on practical deployment
The development model involves integrating consultation and experience from Dillon's teams to ensure that AI breakthroughs are trialled under real-world conditions before being refined and potentially scaled up. This approach is intended to address persistent execution challenges by keeping end-user requirements and regulatory nuances central to development.
"We see AI as a practical lever to strengthen how we deliver projects and services. Working with AXL allows us to pilot solutions in real-world contexts, refine them quickly, and scale what creates measurable value for our clients," Sean Hanlon, Chief Executive Officer of Dillon Consulting.
The companies noted that Dillon's participation is consistent with its values related to creativity and continual improvement. The initiative is expected to challenge traditional approaches, encourage experimentation, and open up new avenues for leveraging technology in consulting processes.
As part of its activities, AXL is pursuing ways to establish strong links between Canadian AI research and marketable services, keeping talent and novel intellectual property within the country's innovation ecosystem as solutions are developed and brought to market.
