Xero has launched an integration with Google Gemini that lets users access live Xero financial data within Gemini conversations.

The integration enables small businesses, accountants and bookkeepers to retrieve financial information, analyse performance and complete routine actions without switching between applications.

Xero says it is the first financial management platform to launch a connected app for Gemini. The product brings real-time business data from Xero into Google's AI assistant, including profit and loss, cash flow, invoices, bills and balance sheets.

Users can ask Gemini conversational questions to generate profit and loss statements, track income and expenses, review cash positions, and check overdue receivables or payables. The integration also supports draft invoice summaries, recurring subscription management, and access to customer and supplier contact details.

Gemini can also present Xero data as charts within the chat interface, including net profit and loss graphs and aged receivables distributions.

"Connecting Xero financial data into Gemini conversations helps small businesses and their accountants and bookkeepers instantly check their financial position, track cash flow and manage invoices and bills, all without breaking their workflow," said Diya Jolly, President of Product & Technology at Xero. "This is another major milestone as we continue to help eliminate operational friction and foster collaboration for our customers, delivering real-time financial intelligence wherever they work."

The integration runs on Xero's JAX platform, which supports AI-driven functions across its products. The system keeps data synchronised between the two services while users work inside Gemini.

Advisor workflow

A key audience for the launch is accountants and bookkeepers managing multiple clients. Xero is also adding a feature that lets advisors switch between client organisations across its AI integrations, including Gemini, without leaving their workflow.

The change is designed to give advisors access to client-specific information while working in external software tools. Xero already offers integrations with Microsoft 365, Claude and ChatGPT.

"Accountants and bookkeepers can ask Gemini for a client's profit and loss, aged receivables, or cash position and get the answer, charted, from live Xero data," said Anurag Agrawal, Founder and Chief Global Analyst at Techaisle. "The time that previously went into assembling those reports can go into helping clients understand what the numbers mean and what to do next."

Controls and data

Any action that changes financial data, such as issuing an invoice or sending a payment reminder, requires explicit confirmation from the user inside the connected app before it is carried out. Xero says this review step is intended to keep accountants, bookkeepers and business owners in control of final decisions.

Xero also set out limits on how data is handled in the Gemini integration. Financial information shared between the platforms is used only for the user's session, and the data is not used to train Google Gemini models.

Task tools

Xero also outlined additional functions tied to Gemini's task features for eligible plan holders. These include time-based schedules and workflows for routine work built around live Xero data.

Examples include combining Xero with Gmail to prepare follow-ups for overdue invoices, or setting a recurring daily summary of pending bills and current cash position. These functions are designed to move regular finance administration into automated workflows while retaining manual approval where transactions or customer communications are involved.

The launch adds to a growing number of partnerships between business software vendors and AI assistants as providers seek to make operational data available through chat-based interfaces. For Xero, the move extends its effort to place accounting information inside the tools customers already use, rather than requiring them to log in to separate systems for every query.

Xero says it serves 5 million small businesses, accountants and bookkeepers across more than 180 countries.
