Temenos wins US regional bank for cloud core upgrade

Temenos has secured a contract with a US regional bank to modernise its core banking platform using its software-as-a-service offering, as financial institutions continue replacing legacy infrastructure with cloud-based systems.
The agreement, signed early in the third quarter, will see the unnamed bank migrate one of its specialised corporate banking operations from a third-party hosted environment to the Temenos Core Banking platform hosted on Microsoft Azure.
The lender serves consumer and commercial customers across the United States. Temenos said the project is intended to provide greater operational agility and create a more flexible, scalable technology platform to support future growth.
Cloud shift
The migration reflects a broader trend among regional and mid-sized banks seeking to simplify their technology environments while improving operational resilience.
Many institutions continue to operate core banking systems that have been customised over many years. Those platforms can be costly to maintain and can make it more difficult to introduce new products or respond to changing regulatory and customer requirements.
Moving to a software-as-a-service model enables banks to outsource infrastructure management while continuing to receive software updates, security enhancements and platform support.
For specialised business lines, modern core banking platforms can also provide greater flexibility without requiring institutions to maintain separate technology stacks.
Banking demand
Demand for cloud-native core banking technology has increased as banks reassess long-term technology investment following higher operating costs and growing expectations for digital banking services.
Regional banks have generally taken a measured approach to replacing core systems due to the complexity of migrating customer data and maintaining uninterrupted banking services.
Projects are therefore often introduced within individual business divisions before being implemented more widely across an institution.
Temenos said the selected platform would reduce technology complexity while improving scalability and operational resilience through its Microsoft Azure-hosted environment.
US expansion
The customer win supports Temenos' strategy of expanding its presence in the United States, where competition among banking technology providers has intensified.
The company has been investing in sales, customer engagement and product development as it seeks to increase adoption of its banking software across North America.
Part of that strategy includes expanding the Temenos Innovation Hub in Orlando, Florida. The facility brings product development, engineering and banking expertise closer to customers in the region.
Temenos also noted recent recognition from IBS Intelligence as a regional leader in North America, reflecting its efforts to strengthen its position in the US banking technology market.
Market position
Temenos provides core banking and digital banking software to financial institutions globally. Its technology supports more than 950 core banking clients and more than 600 digital banking customers worldwide.
The latest contract adds another regional banking customer at a time when financial institutions are balancing technology modernisation with cost management and operational resilience.
Banks are also increasingly seeking platforms that can support future product development without requiring extensive changes to underlying infrastructure.
"This strategic win reflects the momentum we are seeing across the US and North America, and the trust that leading financial institutions place in Temenos. Banks are looking for proven technology that helps them modernise with confidence. We are proud to support this leading US regional bank as it advances its transformation strategy on a modern, cloud-native core banking platform," said William Moroney, Chief Revenue Officer at Temenos.
