TELUS & WestJet launch sweepstakes to support youth bursaries

Thu, 30th Oct 2025

The TELUS Friendly Future Foundation has partnered with WestJet to launch its second annual Friendly Future Sweepstakes aimed at supporting post-secondary education for underserved Canadian youth.

Canadians aged 18 and over are invited to purchase tickets starting at CAD $25 for the opportunity to win a family trip for four to Costa Rica. The main prize includes WestJet flights, a five-night stay at Planet Hollywood Costa Rica by Royalton, and spending money. Additional prizes such as the "gift of flight" for two guests to any regularly scheduled WestJet destination and prepaid gift cards are also on offer.

Those who participate contribute directly to the TELUS Student Bursary program, which delivers financial assistance to students in need. TELUS Rewards members are able to redeem points for sweepstakes entries, and WestJet Rewards members can link their accounts to convert points for use in the draw. All proceeds from the sweepstakes support the Foundation's ongoing work with Canadian students experiencing economic or social challenges.

Sweepstakes and auction details

The sweepstakes will continue accepting ticket purchases until December 5. Alongside it, the fifth annual Friendly Future Auction runs until November 14. The auction presents over 100 items, including tech devices, weekend getaways, sporting events, exclusive memorabilia, and more, all available for bidding. Proceeds from both the sweepstakes and the auction fund the TELUS Student Bursary and other youth-serving initiatives.

Nimmi Kanji, Executive Director of the TELUS Friendly Future Foundation, stated:

"At the TELUS Friendly Future Foundation, we witness firsthand the extraordinary resilience of young Canadians who refuse to let financial and social barriers stand between them and their educational dreams. Their determination and commitment to giving back inspire our mission every day. Through the Friendly Future Sweepstakes and Auction, you can be a catalyst for change by supporting our TELUS Student Bursary program and empowering the next generation of leaders to transform their communities and our country."

The Friendly Future Auction and sweepstakes form part of the Foundation's wider strategy to increase its support for youth facing financial hardship across Canada.

Bursary program impact

The TELUS Student Bursary program, introduced in 2023, has so far supported more than 1,600 students nationwide. According to figures outlined in the media release, 53 per cent of bursaries in the 2025/2026 cohort were granted to students who are the first in their family to attend post-secondary education. In addition, 51 per cent of recipients are working during their studies in order to support themselves financially.

Eligible students will be able to apply for the next round of bursaries in spring 2026. The bursary program is intended for socially-minded students facing financial barriers who are dedicated to making positive contributions to their communities.
