SyncraSys raises seed cash for AI security platform

SyncraSys has closed an oversubscribed seed funding round that exceeded its target by 30%.
The Halifax company did not disclose the amount raised. It said the additional capital will be used to complete its first proof of concept for an artificial intelligence-based physical security platform and support its next stage of growth. SyncraSys has also formed an initial advisory group to help guide product development and prepare for deployment.
SyncraSys is building software designed to work with existing physical security systems, including camera networks, rather than requiring customers to replace current equipment. The platform is intended to analyse information from multiple camera feeds, track incidents as they develop, send alerts and create automated reports for security teams.
Its focus is on activity after a security system has detected an event. By linking information across cameras and over time, the company aims to give security staff a clearer account of what is happening, where an incident is unfolding and what has already taken place across a site.
The system is being developed for public and private settings, including stadiums, airports, university campuses and other large facilities where operators may need to monitor several locations at once. One area of work is automated incident reconstruction, intended to reduce the need for staff to manually review footage from different cameras after an event.
This process would organise relevant material into a chronological record of an incident for review, investigation and follow-up. The approach is intended to address the growing volume of information produced by surveillance systems and the operational pressure on staff responsible for responding to incidents.
SyncraSys is led by Darren MacLeod, a co-founder of Social Navigator, also known as LifeRaft. Its leadership team includes people with backgrounds in artificial intelligence, software, product development, cybersecurity, public safety and business growth.
Platform focus
Conversations with organisations and security sector figures have shaped development of the platform, particularly around the need to move beyond isolated alerts toward a broader picture of incidents. The company is now concentrating on completing the proof of concept and assessing the system in operational settings.
A real-world evaluation is expected to test how the software works with existing infrastructure and security workflows. The newly formed advisory group is intended to help SyncraSys assess applications, build ties in the security market and reflect operational requirements in the product.
MacLeod said existing security operations often struggle to turn large volumes of video and operational data into a useful account of events.
"Security organizations already have access to enormous amounts of video and other operational information, but turning that information into a clear picture of an incident can be difficult and time-consuming," said Darren MacLeod, Chief Executive Officer, SyncraSys.
He said the company is trying to improve the usefulness of systems customers already have in place.
"Our goal is to help security teams make better use of the systems they already have by bringing that information together and providing a clearer account of what is happening. Reaching the proof-of-concept stage is an important step in determining how the technology performs in real-world security environments," said MacLeod.
