Sage launches HCM platform for mid-market businesses

Thu, 23rd Apr 2026 (Yesterday)

Sage has launched Sage HCM for mid-market organisations in North America, linking human resources, payroll and finance data through Sage Intacct.

The human capital management system is aimed at companies that want HR, payroll, time and talent processes on one platform. It is designed for businesses with more complex needs, including multi-entity operations and payroll across multiple jurisdictions in the United States and Canada.

Sage has also introduced HCM Agent, which it described as its first artificial intelligence agent focused on HR and payroll workflows. The tool is intended to support payroll preparation, validation and reconciliation, while flagging potential compliance risks and reducing manual tasks.

The launch targets a longstanding problem for finance and HR teams: workforce data spread across separate systems. That separation can make it harder for executives to track labour costs and assess how workforce spending affects business performance.

Sage cited Deloitte research showing that nearly three-quarters of organisations, or 74 per cent, say improving how workforce data supports decision-making is now a critical priority. The figure highlights the push by software suppliers to connect operational and financial information more closely for mid-sized businesses.

"HR, payroll and finance data should not sit in separate systems," said Jonathan Cowan, EVP, HCM, Platform Strategy and Operations at Sage. "With Sage HCM, organizations can connect workforce and financial data in one place, improve visibility into labor costs, strengthen payroll accuracy and make better workforce planning decisions"

The launch also includes Sage HCM for Construction, a version tailored to firms with project-based workforces. It is intended to connect labour, payroll and job costing in a single system, with support for union rules, certified payroll and prevailing wage requirements.

The construction-specific version reflects the importance of labour costs in project-led sectors, where payroll accuracy and compliance directly affect margins. By linking labour data to project financials, the system is designed to give contractors and subcontractors a clearer view of workforce spending at both project and company level.

The launch also expands opportunities within Sage's partner network, which can now sell and implement workforce management, payroll, and compliance software alongside finance systems. The company already has a broad partner base around Sage Intacct and sector-specific products, particularly in mid-market accounting and enterprise resource planning deployments.

For Sage, the move broadens its HR and payroll portfolio rather than replacing existing products such as Sage HRMS, Sage 100, Sage 300 and Sage 300 CRE. Sage HCM is built on technology from its Criterion HCM platform, with additional integration into Sage Intacct and the inclusion of the new AI features.

"Partners play a critical role in helping customers realise the full value of the Sage platform," Gretchen O'Hara, EVP Strategic Partnerships and Business Development at Sage. "With Sage HCM, we are extending that opportunity into workforce management, enabling partners to support customers with more connected solutions across finance, HR and operations."
