Safe Software plans 60-plus hires as AI demand grows
Wed, 2nd Sep 2026 (Today)
Safe Software plans to hire more than 60 employees across Canada, the US and the UK, increasing the British Columbia company's headcount by more than 15%.
The recruitment drive is expected to take Safe past 400 staff before the end of the year, with roles across revenue, product, engineering and operations. About two thirds of the planned hires are in customer-facing functions, including sales leadership, revenue operations, enablement, marketing and customer support.
The move follows a year in which Safe passed USD $100 million in annual revenue. Revenue grew by close to 20% year on year, while its workforce expanded by more than 20% over the same period.
Based in Surrey, British Columbia, Safe develops FME, a data integration platform used to prepare and connect data from different sources. Demand has risen as more organisations seek to organise data for use in artificial intelligence systems.
That demand is shaping the mix of roles now being added. Alongside commercial positions, Safe is recruiting in AI enablement, test engineering, DevOps, design, human resources and employee experience.
Don Murray, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Safe Software, linked the hiring plan to the company's growth and customer demand for data preparation for AI.
"The incredible growth that we've seen over the last 30+ years at Safe has always been a testament to the great people behind what we do," said Don Murray, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Safe Software. "Almost every organization we speak to is trying to get its data ready for AI, and most of them are realizing that the hard part is not the model, it is the data underneath it. Our people have always been core to solving this need for our clients, and it's why we need more people in more places."
Safe's hiring push comes as technology companies try to turn interest in AI into sales tied to data management, integration and infrastructure. In this part of the market, the challenge is less about building foundation models and more about helping customers make existing information usable across systems.
Safe is ahead of schedule on its target to reach USD $250 million in revenue by 2028, placing the latest recruitment round within a broader expansion strategy rather than a one-off increase in staffing.
Retention focus
Safe also pointed to low staff turnover as it scales. Voluntary turnover was 1.6% last year, which the company cited as evidence that growth has not come at the expense of retention.
Vanessa Ribreau, Chief People Officer of Safe Software, said the company's existing workforce would play a central role in absorbing the new hires. She added that long employee tenures had helped create stable teams.
"Adding 60 people in four months only works if the people already here have a positive, rewarding experience," said Vanessa Ribreau, Chief People Officer, Safe Software. "That's something we pride ourselves on. Voluntary turnover last year was 1.6 percent and our longest-serving employee has been with us more than 28 years. It means new people are joining teams that mix deep expertise with strong alignment about what we do and where we're headed."
Its longest-serving employee has been with the business for more than 28 years. Since 2010, Safe has also placed more than 400 co-op students, with about a third later joining full time.
International reach
The spread of roles across the UK, the US and Canada reflects Safe's effort to build a larger presence outside its home market. Expanding in three countries at once also suggests the company is trying to place more staff closer to customers as competition for AI-related spending intensifies.
While many technology companies have described AI as a growth engine, Safe's announcement offers a more specific sign of where spending is landing: in the work of sorting, connecting and governing data before it can be used in AI tools. For software vendors in the integration market, that layer has become a practical entry point into the broader AI boom.
Safe was named one of BC's Top Employers for 2026 and one of Canada's Top Small and Medium Employers for 2026. The company has also held B Corporation certification since August 2024.
The hiring plan means Safe is aiming to add more than 60 people in a matter of months while maintaining revenue growth and low turnover. If completed on schedule, the recruitment will push the group beyond 400 employees as it works towards its next revenue target.
