Rimini Street releases new hypervisor security solution

Yesterday

Rimini Street has announced the availability of its Rimini Protect Advanced Hypervisor Security (AHS) solution for a variety of Linux-based hypervisors, including VMware and Nutanix, powered by Vali Cyber's AI/ML security technology.

The new solution is integrated into Rimini Street's existing support for VMware, offering substantial savings while extending the lifespan of VMware licenses.

It employs capabilities previously utilised in high-security environments, such as US military deployments, to enhance the security of hypervisor infrastructures.

Ransomware incidents have seen a sharp increase, with the number of reported cases rising by 43% from the third to the fourth quarter of 2024. This uptick is accompanied by a significant increase in ransom payments, which have surged from a median of USD $199,000 in early 2023 to USD $1.5 million by mid-2024.

Hypervisors are critical components in many organisations' IT frameworks, responsible for managing numerous virtual machines. An exploit of a hypervisor can, therefore, have far-reaching consequences due to the potential compromise of all associated virtual machines and their data.

Highlighting these risks, cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike commented, "More and more threat actors are recognising that the lack of security tools, lack of adequate network segmentation of ESXi interfaces, and ITW vulnerabilities for ESXi create a target-rich environment."

The Rimini Protect AHS aims to mitigate these risks by securing environments 24/7/365, offering businesses a method to manage hypervisor risks not previously available in the market. It supports various platforms including VMware ESXi, Nutanix, XenServer, Citrix Hypervisor, Proxmox, and Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization.

The solution utilises AI/ML technology for behavioural-based detection of malicious activities, providing automatic remediation of file damage without requiring human intervention.

Multifactor authentication (MFA) is integrated to help safeguard against credential thefts, while process control features work to prevent potential breaches from spreading within the virtual environment.

Rimini Protect AHS is supported by Rimini Street's Global Security Services, composed of a large team of security specialists available around the clock.

Gabe Dimeglio, CISO, SVP & GM of Rimini Protect and Rimini Watch solutions, stated, "With an ever-changing threat landscape and evolving attack methodologies, we continue to innovate our advanced security solutions with the latest technologies such as AI/ML behavioural algorithms to address our clients' security needs."

Dimeglio added, "Whether to enhance and add to your defence strategy or to maximise the value of existing systems, Rimini Protect Advanced Hypervisor Security offers peace of mind from a trusted, proven partner that has been providing mission-critical security solutions for complex, large, mission-critical, high-security government and military organisations across the globe."

"We take great pride in protecting the systems and irreplaceable data of our clients that is always under threat of attack."
