PrePad receives award for revolutionising digital oilfield innovation
PrePad has received the 2025 Meritorious Award for Engineering Innovation in the Digital Oilfield category from Hart Energy for its Completions Module.
The award acknowledges PrePad's cloud-based completions simulation software, which enables teams to rapidly simulate and evaluate any well decision, thereby altering conventional methods used by energy firms for planning and executing unconventional well projects. The judging panel for the Hart Energy awards comprised engineers and scientists from both operating and consulting backgrounds.
Industry recognition
Hart Energy's Meritorious Awards for Engineering Innovation are given to products and technologies that demonstrate originality and effectiveness in concept, design, and application. PrePad's Completions Module was recognised for integrating cost, time, and production interdependencies into a unified, efficient platform for energy companies managing unconventional wells.
Sean Hervo, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of PrePad, commented on the achievement.
"We're honoured to receive this year's Meritorious Award for Engineering Innovation in the Digital Oilfield category. The award reinforces the innovation and hard work that our team has invested into creating the industry's first completions process simulator. It's a powerful recognition of the value PrePad brings to the energy sector by optimizing well design, cost management, and operational efficiency in ways that were previously impossible."
He further added, "Winning this award from Hart Energy is a meaningful validation of the work we've put into PrePad from day one. Our completions simulator was built to give engineers the clarity and confidence they need to make high-stakes decisions-faster, smarter, and with more precision than ever before. We're proud to be helping operators rethink how they approach capital planning and unconventional well delivery."
Technology details
The PrePad Completions Module is designed to enable operators to simulate cost and time implications at every decision stage, allowing them to determine optimal balances among production, cost, cycle time, emissions, and risk. By supplanting traditional spreadsheets with a universal simulation model, PrePad provides real-time, accurate analysis of key variables relevant to unconventional well operators.
Brandon Eidson, Co-Founder, President, and Chief Product Officer at PrePad, highlighted the practical benefits of the module:
"It's great to see PrePad's innovative product receiving this recognition. Our software empowers energy companies, before they've spent any money, to model real-world trade-offs under complex, constrained scenarios, estimating the impact of anything they dream up and ultimately maximizing profitability. The award highlights the significant impact our technology is having in optimizing those completions workflows."
Hart Energy's endorsement
Darren Barbee, who oversees editorial content at Hart Energy and was involved in the judging, said the PrePad Completions Module impressed the panel with its unique approach to digital oilfield challenges:
"Congratulations to PrePad. The ability to integrate cost, time, and production interdependencies in a single, user-friendly product was recognized by judges as significant for the industry. PrePad joins prestigious company with this contribution to improving the efficiency and profitability of unconventional well operations."
Market footprint
PrePad has reported a growing client base that includes firms such as Chevron, Devon Energy, Coterra Energy, Shell Canada, Whitecap Resources, Birchcliff Energy, Teine Energy, and Cygnet Energy. The company continues to focus on product enhancement and positioning itself as a standard in drilling and completions software.
Founded in 2021 by former Shell employees Sean Hervo and Brandon Eidson, PrePad has previously been recognised by groups such as Darcy Partners as a top sector innovator and by the Global Energy Show Canada as a digital innovator.
