Google Cloud has added OpenAI models to its Model Garden, giving customers access to them through Google Cloud's AI platform.

The addition makes Google Cloud the only hyperscale cloud provider to offer all three leading closed-source large language models alongside more than 200 first-party, third-party and open models on one platform.

Under the rollout, select enterprise customers can access OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Luna in private preview. Customers can use the models through Google Cloud APIs and connect local Codex CLI and desktop workflows to its Gemini platform for inference.

Model range

Google Cloud is positioning the offering around customer choice across different workloads. GPT-6 Astra is aimed at coding, computer use, professional tasks and scientific research, while GPT-6.1 Sol is positioned as a lower-cost option for coding, computer use and professional work. GPT-6 Luna is offered as a faster, lower-cost model for everyday work at scale.

Users will be able to select and switch models based on performance, latency and cost without changing core architecture or negotiating separate vendor contracts. OpenAI models will be billed through Google Cloud Marketplace, appearing on a single invoice and counting towards existing cloud commitments and Flexible Savings Plans.

The agreement extends a broader contest among major cloud providers to host both proprietary and open AI models, while trying to become the main route through which businesses buy and manage generative AI services. For large corporate buyers, centralised billing, procurement and governance have become as important as access to the models themselves.

Google Cloud also outlined a governance and security framework for customers using third-party models on its infrastructure. Customer prompts, context and outputs will remain within designated data perimeters and will not be used to train foundation models, while a Zero Data Retention option is expected later.

OpenAI models on the service run on dedicated Google Cloud infrastructure, with Confidential Compute due to be added. Requests are routed through isolated gateways inside Google Cloud's environment, and enterprise administrators will have authenticated identity controls, audit logging and VPC Service Controls protection across model interactions.

Partner comments

The expansion also deepens ties between the two companies at a time when demand for AI agents and model access is shaping cloud competition.

"Google Cloud is a trusted platform for developers and businesses building AI agents, writing software, and putting AI to work. This partnership is an important step in making our most capable models and Codex available where customers are already building, giving them even more choice in how they use frontier AI as we grow the agentic ecosystem together," said Greg Brockman, President and Co-Founder of OpenAI.

Thomas Kurian, Chief Executive Officer of Google Cloud, set out the company's position on model breadth and cost management.

"We are focused on giving customers a broad selection of models, including those from OpenAI, so they can choose the right model for any given job, helping to deliver optimal quality and lower costs," said Kurian.

OpenAI models are also due to be made available in Gemini for business and Google Antigravity, widening the ways enterprise users and developers can access them through Google Cloud's platform.
