Genetec boosts cloud access control with visitor tools

Thu, 19th Mar 2026

Genetec has updated its Security Centre SaaS cloud platform with new access control features, including an integrated front desk interface for visitor management, expanded support for intrusion hardware, and an optional facial authentication integration.

Genetec positioned the release as a way for organisations to shift more security operations to the cloud without replacing existing on-site systems. It also adds quicker access to common tasks for security teams.

"Security teams shouldn't be constrained by legacy infrastructure or forced into all-or-nothing cloud decisions," said Francis Lachance, Senior Director, Product, Genetec. "Security Centre SaaS removes the friction of traditional upgrade cycles while preserving the architectural choice enterprises depend on. We're delivering enterprise-grade access control through the cloud in a way that lets organizations scale, adapt, and modernize without disrupting existing systems or compromising control."

Front Desk Changes

A central element of the update is a new front desk experience that combines visitor check-in and access workflows in a single cloud interface. Many sites manage visitors and cardholder access in separate systems, which can create gaps at reception and add steps for staff.

With the updated design, front desk staff can manage scheduled visitors and walk-ins from the same screen, while access policies determine the permissions each visitor receives. Genetec said the approach separates reception tasks from the enforcement of security policy.

The platform also applies visitor screening rules at check-in, comparing individuals against external databases and registries. If the system flags a match or exception, it can trigger predefined actions automatically, such as notifying security staff.

Genetec said the model suits environments that require consistent visitor controls, including schools, healthcare facilities, and corporate offices, while streamlining reception workflows across sites.

Hardware Compatibility

The update also expands hardware support for organisations that keep some security infrastructure on site while using cloud services for management and operations. Genetec said its platform supports this approach through an open architecture and Cloudlink appliances, which connect existing access control and intrusion hardware to the cloud.

The aim is a single interface for teams managing different systems across a portfolio of sites. The release adds broader intrusion panel support for Radionix (formerly Bosch) and Honeywell, with DMP support planned for a later release.

Genetec also announced an integration with SAFR SCAN for facial authentication. The company said the biometric option is intended for deployments that need stronger identity checks than physical cards or badges, reducing reliance on physical credentials.

Rollout Timeline

The new front desk experience is available now for Security Centre SaaS users, and support for Honeywell Galaxy intrusion panels is also available immediately. DMP support and the SAFR biometric integration are scheduled for release by June 2026.

Genetec will demonstrate the latest version of Security Centre SaaS at ISC West.
