Fastly named Leader in Forrester edge platform report

Wed, 25th Mar 2026

Fastly has been named a Leader in Forrester's latest assessment of edge development platforms, placing it among the top vendors in the market.

The report examined platforms that let developers build and deploy applications on distributed infrastructure closer to users and data sources. Fastly said it was also the only vendor in the evaluation to receive above-average customer feedback.

In excerpts cited by the company, customers highlighted Fastly's performance, reliability and developer experience. Users also praised its technical support and what the assessment described as a proactive partnership approach.

Forrester said Fastly's strategy centres on a global compute fabric, with an emphasis on Wasm security, interoperability and deterministic performance. The report added that the company is building on its position in AI-assisted development and edge-first event streaming, while expanding containers and components to support a broader range of workloads.

It also described Fastly as "a top choice for performance-critical, event-driven, security-sensitive, and globally consistent edge workloads."

Customer feedback

The customer feedback element stands out because analyst rankings often weigh both product criteria and direct customer responses. In this case, Fastly said it was the only evaluated vendor to achieve above-average customer feedback.

That distinction adds to the ranking's significance in a market where edge development platforms are increasingly used to support software delivery across distributed environments. These platforms are designed to help developers run applications closer to end users and data, reducing latency and supporting more consistent performance.

Kelly Shortridge, Chief Product Officer at Fastly, said the market for such systems is expanding as organisations increasingly treat software delivery as a competitive differentiator.

"Organisations across all industries now differentiate in their markets by delivering resilient, highly performant, always-on software. Investing in edge platforms helps them achieve these ambitions at global scale," Shortridge said.

She added: "To us, this recognition positions Fastly as the essential foundation for enterprises to translate software delivery investments into continuous competitive advantage. Our global compute fabric weaves the security, performance, and consistency enterprises need to expedite innovation and invent new app paradigms that transform their business."

Market focus

The edge development platform market has drawn increased attention as companies look for ways to run applications and services outside traditional centralised cloud environments. Providers are competing on factors including developer tools, support for distributed workloads, security features and performance under demanding conditions.

Fastly has long been associated with content delivery and edge services, and the latest ranking suggests it is seeking to strengthen its position with developers building newer forms of applications on distributed infrastructure. The report's references to AI-assisted development, event streaming, containers and components indicate where the company is looking to broaden its reach.

The assessment also suggests Fastly is targeting customers with demanding operational needs, particularly where consistency, responsiveness and security are critical. That focus reflects broader demand from businesses that want software systems to remain available and responsive across multiple geographies.

Fastly says organisations including Reddit, Universal Music Group and SeatGeek use its services.
