Edwin named Digital Learning Platform of the Year for 2025
Nelson's digital learning platform, Edwin, has received the title of Digital Learning Platform of the Year in the 2025 EdTech Breakthrough Awards.
The EdTech Breakthrough Awards recognise companies and solutions in the global educational technology market. Nelson, headquartered in Canada, was chosen for the seventh annual edition of the awards, which receive thousands of nominations from over 15 countries worldwide. The award acknowledges the features and resources Edwin provides to educators and students, with a particular focus on curriculum alignment, interactive tools, and ongoing support.
Edwin supplies teachers with curriculum-aligned resources to assist with lesson planning, student assessments, and additional educational support. The platform aims to support classroom equity by delivering differentiated content that includes a range of formats such as text, audio, and video, helping students to demonstrate learning progress in multiple ways.
An Edwin licence gives access to core curriculum resources across various subjects, including Mathematics, English Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science. In addition to traditional subjects, Edwin Essentials covers life skills such as financial literacy, digital citizenship, cultural competence, global awareness, and personal growth. The platform's content is designed for delivery in diverse settings, including whole-class instruction, small group activities, or self-directed learning, depending on student needs and interests.
Edwin has undergone a number of recent updates, including the integration of a mathematics progress check tool. This new feature is designed to help teachers monitor student performance, identify learning gaps, and prepare students for provincial testing. The tool integrates with existing curriculum resources, with the aim of enabling teachers to tailor instruction more effectively.
Additional updates to the platform include enhancements to the "browse by curriculum" feature, enabling teachers to rapidly locate and use the most current curriculum-linked materials relevant to their subjects. Edwin's library of supports and resources is updated regularly to maintain alignment with evolving curricula and ensure continued engagement for both students and teachers.
"Edwin is transforming classroom engagement and empowering both teachers and students to achieve their full potential. These days, teachers are tasked with duties that go beyond working directly with students in a classroom. They need ways of saving time to make those actual teaching hours count. Edwin's unique combination of innovative progress check tool, continuously updated curriculum, and user-friendly resources make it a standout in the EdTech industry meeting teachers where they are. We are excited to award Nelson with 'Digital Learning Platform of the Year' for Edwin!" Steve Johansson, Managing Director of EdTech Breakthrough, said, commenting on the selection of Edwin for the award.
The EdTech Breakthrough Awards honour achievements in multiple educational technology categories, including student engagement, school administration, adaptive learning, STEM education, remote learning, and career preparation. The programme's mission is to highlight excellence and acknowledge the dedication and success of organisations and products within the sector.
Steve Brown, Chief Executive Officer of Nelson, explained the development process behind Edwin and Nelson's approach to educational tools.
"Before developing Edwin, I visited thousands of classrooms to get a better sense of the experiences students found engaging in other areas of their lives and what could help teachers save time. The result is creating enjoyment and experiential learning, so students are immersing themselves in the material, rather than being forced to do it. We are proud to accept this award from EdTech Breakthrough and to be recognized for leading the way in educational innovation. We're committed to making technology a powerful support in the classroom, and empowering educators and students through cutting-edge tools and comprehensive support," Brown said.
Edwin's content and tools are intended to respond to the daily realities faced by educators by supplying timely and up-to-date resources matched to provincial curricula. The inclusion of features such as progress checks and curriculum browsing is designed to allow teachers to focus their planning and assessment, while supporting students as they work towards established educational goals.
The recognition from the EdTech Breakthrough Awards comes during a period of increased focus on digital learning environments and their use in supporting diverse student needs. Nelson reports that updates to Edwin will continue as part of its stated commitment to supporting educators and learners in an evolving educational context.
