Azul & OpenValue extend Java migration services to North America

Today

Azul has announced the expansion of its partnership with OpenValue into North America, extending the availability of OpenValue's Java migration services and global migration guarantees to new and existing Azul customers and resellers.

The companies' expanded collaboration aims to offer clients across Europe and North America further support in moving their Java estates from Oracle Java to Azul's supported builds of OpenJDK. The offering is designed to ensure greater assurance and predictability in project delivery, specifically targeting cost management and reduced licensing risks.

Expansion of migration services

OpenValue, founded in 2017, has established itself as a consulting provider for Java and DevOps projects, primarily supporting enterprises in Europe. In 2020, OpenValue introduced certified migration services to facilitate transitions away from Oracle Java, addressing concerns over increasing costs and restrictive licensing terms. The collaboration with Azul expands these services to North America, introducing a newly developed guarantee for predictable migration outcomes.

The guarantee is intended to give customers confidence that their migrations to Azul Platform Core and Azul Platform Prime will be completed on agreed timelines and within set budgets. This approach seeks to address common challenges organisations face when undertaking large-scale and business-critical migrations.

"The demand for guaranteed Java migration services continues to accelerate in both Europe and North America," said Robert Bruinink, CEO of OpenValue Services. "By expanding our strategic partnership with Azul, we can offer customers a proven path to move away from expensive, restrictive Oracle Java—while guaranteeing that migrations will be completed on time and on budget. Together with Azul's best-in-class Java platform, we're helping organizations optimize costs, improve performance, and take full control of their Java estates."

The guarantee covers both project timelines and budgets, offering clients a level of assurance that seeks to minimise the risks associated with migrating critical business applications.

Azul's Java platform offer

Azul provides supported builds of OpenJDK, covering the full spectrum of Java versions, including older versions such as Java 6 and 7. Its suite of solutions, including Azul Platform Core and Azul Platform Prime, is used by a range of enterprise customers in sectors such as banking, eCommerce, and technology. According to the company, these platforms offer long-term reliability, enterprise-grade security, performance optimisation, and ongoing support.

By using Azul's platforms, clients can look to reduce the total cost of ownership for their Java deployments while ensuring that environments remain secure and optimised. The partnership with OpenValue, and the addition of the migration guarantee, is positioned as a way for customers to modernise their Java estates without unexpected delays or budget overruns.

Channel partner significance

Azul's engagement with global channel partners, including OpenValue, is highlighted as being central to the company's go-to-market strategy. The guarantee is intended to offer reassurances at the enterprise level for migration projects that are often complex and resource-intensive.

"Our global channel partners are instrumental in helping customers unlock the full value of Azul's Java platform," said Simon Taylor, vice president of Global Partners and Alliances at Azul. "OpenValue's Java migration guarantee is a game-changer, giving enterprises the confidence to modernize their Java estates with clear expectations and no surprises. We're excited to expand this partnership into North America and continue enabling our customers and partners to drive successful, low-risk migrations to Azul."

The expansion of the partnership underlines the demand for migration guarantees among enterprises managing extensive Java estates. The companies will provide the migration guarantee through Azul's and OpenValue's direct channels as well as through partners globally, aiming to support both public and private enterprises regardless of region.

Resellers and channel partners are also expected to benefit from the guarantee, gaining a more reliable offering to present to organisations seeking secure and efficient migrations away from Oracle Java environments. The partnership signals a concerted effort to support customers with predictable project outcomes and cost structures as they transition to supported OpenJDK builds.
