Alexi launches private cloud AI to boost data privacy for law firms

Yesterday

Alexi has introduced Alexi Private Cloud, providing law firms with a dedicated environment for deploying legal AI that prioritises privacy, compliance, and control over sensitive data.

The launch is intended to address the specific requirements of legal teams operating in highly regulated environments across North America. With recent cyberattacks, including warnings from the FBI about threat actors targeting law firms for their sensitive information, the security and privacy of legal data have come under increased scrutiny.

Alexi Private Cloud creates a fully isolated infrastructure tailored to each firm's preferences and standards. This approach departs from the standard practice of relying on widely available public cloud AI platforms and aims to offer law firms increased assurance over their sensitive information when adopting artificial intelligence tools in practice.

Mark Doble, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Alexi, commented on the broader implications of this infrastructure shift, focusing on both security and strategic benefits for law firms deploying AI:

AI has fundamentally changed the cloud architecture of choice for critical business applications. It's not just about security, although that is critical. It's also that private and customizable deployments permit firms to invest in their own AI stack, whether for complex workflows or custom-built models. A law firm's proprietary AI is now a critical source of competitive advantage, and private deployments are foundational to this. Gone are the days of simply relying on the same third-party licenses that every other firm has access to.

Key features of Alexi Private Cloud highlighted in the announcement include total data compliance by keeping all information within a firm's dedicated environment, establishing the firm's intellectual property ownership over any novel customisations or workflows, and providing an AI system that can be tailored to each firm's templates, logic, and internal policies.

The platform offers extensive controls over access, retention, and permissions, aligning with each firm's internal governance standards from the outset. Security aspects have been designed to pass enterprise-level scrutiny, with mechanisms such as AES-256 encryption, SOC 2 compliance, single sign-on (SSO) integration, audit logging, and options for regional data residency.

Doble added that Alexi Private Cloud is designed not just to safeguard information but also to support the scaling of AI across a law firm's operations:

With Alexi Private Cloud, firms aren't just protecting their data, they're unlocking the ability to scale AI confidently across their organization. By embedding AI into their existing systems and workflows, legal teams can drive real efficiency, accelerate decision-making, and deliver stronger outcomes for clients, all without compromising trust or compliance.

Alexi Private Cloud is positioned to assist law firms at various stages of AI adoption, supporting both initial pilots and wider organisational deployment. Use cases covered include accelerating legal research, automating the drafting of legal documents, and developing workflow automations tailored to the specific requirements of each firm.

The company's legal AI platform supports practitioners in both the United States and Canada, covering all US states, Washington D.C., and both federal and provincial jurisdictions in Canada. Through its AI-driven tools, Alexi aims to help legal professionals reduce inefficiencies and deliver added value for their clients, while maintaining compliance with industry standards.

Alexi states that this infrastructure is built to integrate with core legal technologies, supporting major legal workflows and allowing for seamless transitions as organisational needs evolve in response to technological, regulatory, or client demands.
